Drug Interaction

Drugs have an effect on your body. In fact, that is the whole purpose in taking the drug in the first place. Americans are taking more and more drugs all the time to for purposes such as weight loss, sleep aids, and headaches. Yet, drugs can also affect other drugs. A drug interaction can be very sever and may even cause death.

Yet, information is available to help prevent a dangerous drug interaction. In fact, one of the most common sources of information is the back of the pill bottle. You might be surprise how many people ignore these tiny little instructions. Many times they will warn you about potential drug interactions.

Another source that is sometimes overlooked is your doctor. If you go to an emergency room physician, a specialist, or any doctor other than your regular physician and they prescribe medication you should still consult your regular doctor before taking the prescription. This is because your doctor knows what other medications you are taking and can help foresee a potential drug interaction.

However, if for some reason you are not able to speak to your doctor and you want to find the information on your own, you can. The internet is a great place for finding information about a potential drug interaction. There are websites that offer searchable databases with a ton of prescription drugs. You can simply type in the drug or combination of drugs you are using and it will tell you if there are any drugs or even foods that may cause a drug interaction.

Another way of finding information is to ask the manufacturer. This can be done a number of ways. You can visit their website. This will probably take the least amount of time. Yet, it may not have the information you need. You can call the manufacturer, but this may take a lot longer and can be more inconvenient. Still this way you can actually ask targeted questions and ask for clarification if needed.
